Roll Mighty Leather

We love to push the boundaries of our craft, and this year we are incredibly proud to debut our latest insanely intricate contribution to the tabletop space, Leather Dice! 

The idea for the dice came about after we were trying to make leather polyhedral charms for bookmarks. 
Much to our surprise when assembled they appeared to be fairly accurate, and when comparing to standard sets of dice, we had much to our astonishment made then more accurately than all of our non-metal dice, and we accidentally discovered a whole new side project! These dice are the culmination of several years’ worth of prototypes, redesigns and finessing, as what began as a peculiar little experiment evolved into the challenge of making a fully finished set of polyhedral dice. 

The result is a surprisingly tactile set of dice that are much quieter to roll than dice made from standard materials. We as a rule try to design products that keep accessibility in mind, and these dice will be amazing for those with sensory issues, where the brash clackedy-clack of hard dice can act as a barrier to play; just as a you wouldn’t hear the rogue sneaking through the dark, you’ll not hear our dice coming! Due to the properties of the materials, they have an energetic nature to their rolls, and take slightly longer to settle on a number, which further cranks up the dramatic element further adding tension and mystery of a roll. 

The dice use a 22mm standard as opposed to 20mm, so they feel just they extra little bit special in the hand. They are handmade from vegetable tanned leather, which is the original, truest, and more environmentally friendly form of leather, made by stewing the raw hides in a plant matter infused bath. This type of leather is renowned for growing character and patina with age and use, and is a byproduct of the meat industry, creating a frankly incredible material out of what would be landfill mass.

Each dice is wet moulded in two parts before being dried, filled, trimmed, sanded, glued and finished into the final polyhedron. The dice are then dyed and painstakingly individually numbered before being finished with our own special blend of leather care balm, ensuring years of use. 

 Maker note – This truly is a world exclusive, to my knowledge, and I have searched extensively, nothing like this has ever been made before, occasionally some more novelty d20’s are out there, but as a true set, this has never been done before, I am immensely proud of this achievement, and hope that you can see the care and love that has done in to making these.
